The Palttoo coat is made of water-repellent, bonded cotton canvas in the Unikko pattern. The coat has a relaxed, straight fit. The coat has a pointed collar, a concealed snap button closure in the front, and slanted welt pockets. The sleeve ends can be tightened with snap buttons. There is a long slit at the back hemline, which can be partially closed with snap buttons. The coat can be worn with a separate inner coat, so that when they are attached, the outer pockets lead into the inner coat pockets.
Marimekko’s famous poppy pattern Unikko was born in 1964 in a time when the design house’s collections featured mostly abstract prints. Designer Maija Isola wanted to create something interesting from this organic theme and designed an entire range of floral prints. Today, the iconic flower represents creativity.
